Vice Admiral Ajmad Khan Niazi “expected” to be new naval chief

The government of Pakistan has announced to appoint Vice Admiral M Ajmad Khan Niazi as the new naval chief, reported ARY News. According to the reports, President Arif Alvi has approved the notification for his appointment as the new naval chief.

Vice Admiral Niazi is expected to take up the charge at October 6th. He will replace the outgoing Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi. According to the reports, Vice Admiral Niazi headed the fleet that detected the Indian submarine during March 2019 Pakistan India standoff.

Last year, he assumed the charge of Vice Admiral Niazi. He joined the navy in 1983 and is the recipient of Sword of Honor. He has an illustrious career with wide ranging Command and Staff appointments. Some of his major Command appointments include Commanding Officer PNS BADAR, Commanding Officer PNS TARIQ, Commander 18th Destroyer Squadron, Commandant PNS BAHADUR and Commandant Pakistan Navy War College, Lahore.

His Staff appointment includes Director Naval Operations, Principal Secretary to the chief of Naval Staff, Director General Naval Intelligence, Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff (Training and Evaluation) at Naval Headquarters and Chief Naval Overseer (China).

He is a graduate of Army Command and Staff College, Quetta and National Defence University, Islamabad. He has been awarded Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military) and Sitara-e-Basalat by the Government of Pakistan and French Medal Chevalier (Knight) by the Government of France. He has even served as the Commander Pakistan Fleet.
