PEMRA restricted all satellite TV channels from reporting over motorway rape case

On Friday, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) restricted all satellite TV channels from reporting over motorway rape case. The notification issued by the authority claimed that, in the context of the orders issued by the Lahore anti-terrorism court in the following case, regarding directions were issued.

All news channels have been ordered by the Authority to restrain from broadcasting any material relating to the incident. It has also notified that legal action against the infringement would be pursued.

As per the notification released it was said that media coverage and broadcasting on these rape cases will concern the victim as well as victim’s family will also be disgraced.

In September, a woman was robbed and raped in front of her children on Lahore Sialkot motorway. She was waiting for help there because her car ran out of fuel. Yet police have arrested one of the wrongdoers while the other one is still on the loose.
